According to “A Brief History of the Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club,” when HTMC was formed in 1910, the annual dues were $5, which is the equivalent in purchasing power to $143.69 in 2021 dollars (adjusting for inflation).

Give the gift of an “HTMC Friend” membership to your family or friends. Anyone can qualify for an “HTMC Friend” membership as long as they meet the following criteria:
Be 18 years old or older.
– Participate in at least three official HTMC activities (events, hikes, and/or trail maintenance) within the 12 months prior to applying for membership.
– Annual Dues are the same as Members (see above).
– Fill out a Friend Application.

Make a donation! HTMC is a 501(c)3 (Public Charity) and donations can be deducted under IRC Section 170 (sorry, membership dues are not tax deductible). Please note that if you are considering a large donation, PayPal charges a fee based on a percentage of the total amount, so you may want to send your payment via check instead.

What does my donation support? HTMC has two primary funds for supporting club activities, the Waimanalo clubhouse, and its commitments to promote hiking, hiking safety, and environmental conservation and protection. HTMC relies on member donations to keep the club running, and our committed and resourceful HTMC Treasurer, Accountant, and Board allocate funding according to need and the specific requirements governing different funds.

Most donations are placed in the General Fund and used to support HTMC in whichever way the money is needed most. This fund helps support the day to day operations of the club, including paying for trail maintenance and supplies, clubhouse utilities and insurance, and administrative fees like the annual audit.

HTMC also has three Fidelity Funds set up for long term support of the club and its commitments. These funds can be used according to specific requirements for specific purposes. The Preservation Fund is used for HTMC preservation, maintenance of hiking trails, and donations to other like-minded organizations. The Clubhouse Improvement Fund is used for clubhouse major repairs and reserved for needed replacements or upgrades. The Endowment Fund was established to receive and administer bequests, estates, insurance, memorials and other assets, to be perpetual and perpetuating. HTMC can only use the interest income generated by this fund. Please note that for donations to the Endowment Fund, you should click the appropriate box or write “Endowment Fund” on your check.

HTMC looks forward to sharing the trail with you in 2022 – no matter how muddy, steep, hot or challenging – together may our hiking community continue to inspire each other and hike together responsibly in beautiful Hawai’i Nei!

Please email membership@htmc1910.org if you have further questions or concerns.
