Joyous Wreath Making Workshop with Myrtle

- by

The Annual Wreath Making Workshop with HTMC Member Myrtle Wong was held on Saturday November 23rd. Members, guests and non-members gathered under the Hau Arbor at the clubhouse for guidance. In the 1970’s & 80’s Myrtle learned how to make wreaths and other Hawaiian crafts when she worked for 11 years as a Recreation Director at the City and County Parks and Recreation. Myrtle is thrilled that wreath making has gotten popular again and she can share her joy and creativity of the process.

Participants came prepared to tap their creativity, bringing with them their own wreath base, greening pins, plant materials, etc. CLICK HERE for the details. Although Myrtle tends to bring a large selection of greenery to use, everyone is encouraged to bring their own materials and many share. Some had gone hiking to collect materials along the trail, others raided their yards and brought holiday decorations to include on their wreaths.

Myrtle instructed how to wrap the wreath base in ti leaves and add your materials. She encouraged everyone to get creative and had suggestions for considering what to choose to decorate your wreath with including; wreath color, size of greenery and selecting a flower or material to be your “star,” final touches included adding dried seed pods or a bow.

Amazingly within a few hours, everyone made truly beautiful and unique wreaths. Once the wreaths were finished Myrtle took photos (her images are below). It makes Myrtle smile to think about these festive wreaths greeting so many throughout the holiday season.

Mahalo to Myrtle for sharing her love and inspiration for crafting beautiful creations from nature. If you are interested in participating in Myrtle’s workshops in the future keep your eye out for them and sign up early! They tend to be very popular and due to the limited space these events require a reservation and tend to fill up quickly.
