Three Hikes in Japan with Blaise Smith

In May 2024, after an absence of nearly forty years, club member Blaise Smith returns to Japan and completes three very different hikes in three different prefectures: Kyoto, Wakayama and Hiroshima. Born and raised in Hawaii with a Japanese Grandfather, Blaise began studying Japanese in the seventh grade. During her college years, she attended Sophia University in Tokyo for one semester, living with a Japanese family. Forty years later,  Blaise returned to Japan for a 16 night “trip of a lifetime” with her 26 year old daughter, Daena. She is excited to share not only her experience of hiking in Japan, but also some tips she learned while traveling there.

Blaise Smith is an HTMC Member and the current Books and Records Committee Chair. She lives on the windward side and loves to paddle and hike.
