Common Ferns of O’ahu with Miles Thomas
This presentation highlights some (not all) of the common ferns found on O’ahu hiking trails. Native species are highlighted in this talk, although a few invasive species are also included.
Miles Thomas is a botanist at the Bishop Museum, as well as a dog field technician with the Plant Extinction Prevention Program on O’ahu. Miles specializes in the Hawaiian flora, but has a specialization in ferns and bryophytes. He also works part time with Protect and Preserve Hawai’i, a non profit organization restoring the lower section of pia gulch in Niu Valley. Miles is an alumni of the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, with a Bachelor’s and Masters degree in Botany.
