An Evening of Mo’olelo with Ann Marie Kirk
Do you like to A’o (learn), Ho’omana’o (remember) and Ka’ana (share, like)? Come join Ann Marie Nalani Kirk for an informative presentation about the people, history and culture of Maunalua and Waimanalo. Ann Marie will share Hawaiian legends and mo’olelo (stories) from our na kupuna giving us the opportunity to foster a stronger sense of place and connection to the land through stories. We need to understand our cultural treasures that are around us. Knowing your history connects you to your ancestors. If we loose our stories we loose the meaning of things.
Ann Marie is a lifelong resident of Maunalua, O’ahu, a Graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy, Kapiolan’i Community College with an BA and the University of Hawai’i at Manoa BA in Film and Mythology and a MA in Pacific Island Studies. She has been working in film and digital storytelling for over 30 years and is an award-winning filmmaker. One of her projects is Maunalua.net, an interactive website with a map of Maunalua area with links to historic images, oral histories, stories, videos, and more.
