Hike for Hope, sponsored by the AFSP

This June, The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), Hawaii Chapter, is promoting hiking and exercise, self-care, enjoying nature, and building community with a virtual *Construction* Hike for Hope. Everyone can participate in hikes anywhere, anytime, all month long. AFSP has a special focus on construction workers, who have the highest rates of suicide among the professions in the US.
Rachelle Chang is a board member of the AFSP Hawaii Chapter and approached HTMC with this proposition. Safe hiking, and stewardship of Hawaii’s trails, is HTMC’s mission. Furthermore, Andrea’s dad was a highly skilled construction worker being loved and appreciated by his clients for leaving their houses beautified by meticulous painting work. He worked hard, and his clients honored that. Andrea’s dad introduced her to hiking, table tennis, skiing, ocean swimming and appreciating nature. Just be active, he said. Apply yourself, he said. Be modest and frugal, he said. Enjoy nature, he said. Nature, a free gift to all, he said. Nature, a healing gift by nature, to us, he said. Just take a stroll through nature and some of your worries are deflected: This is Andrea’s opinion as of today. Thank you, Rachelle, for caring and sharing this wonderful opportunity to “Take a Hike”. Pun intended!
AFSP offers one in-person hike, please see below:
This in-person, family-friendly O’ahu Hike is on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 12 pm at Aiea Loop Trail (top of the trail). It is a free event. Please RSVP at https://bit.ly/hihike25.
