Marion Lyman-Mersereau Bio:

Born and raised in Honolulu, of Hawaiian-Chinese ancestry, Marion Lyman-Mersereau is a retired middle school teacher with over forty years as an educator. Outside of the classroom where she taught ethics and government, she has been a yoga teacher, paddling coach, and outdoor education director. She served in the Peace Corps in Palau, Micronesia for two years.

Marion received her college degrees from the University of Northern Colorado, and the University of Hawaii where she received a Masters in Education and also did extensive graduate work in the religion department.

Marion has authored a children’s book, Eddie Wen’ Go, about her experience on the famous voyaging canoe, Hokule’a, when it capsized in the Kaiwi channel in 1978. She adapted her book to a play produced at the Hawai’i Theater in 2014 and at the University of Hawaii’s Kennedy Theater in January 2022. She also co-authored a four volume book entitled Character Education, with John Heidel which emphasizes specific values to be understood, embraced, and demonstrated through action, encouraging these values to become part of one’s head, heart, and hands.

She is a practitioner of mindfulness with over ten years of experience and attendance at many mindfulness retreats. She has taught mindfulness at the corporate level, to educators, to K-12 students and presently through mindful movement classes with senior citizens.
