Maunawili Trail
Overview
Maunawili Trail was built in 1991-4 using community volunteer labor as a demonstration trail for the Na Ala Hele Trail and Access Program of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Hawaii. It is a lovely contour trail at about 800 feet above sealevel along the Pali cliffs above Maunawili Valley. The trail goes in and out of gulches and viewpoints. The flora varies tremendously with Ohia, Koa, Guava, Plum, Ginger, Ironwood, Rose-Apple, Bird’s-nest Ferns, etc. Be sure to carry water to drink as none is available on the trail. This is an excellent family hike.
Directions
From Kalanianaole Highway at the golfcourse end of Waimanalo, turn right into Kumuhau Street, continue about 1/2 mile to the end and turn right onto Waikupunaha Street. Go about 3 blocks and park near the chain-link fence. The trail starts across the street.
