Volunteers Needed: Lyon Arboretum: Mules Foot Fern Eradication Project

Jesse Adams, a botanist at Lyon is continuing a big project for mule’s foot ferns eradication at Lyon Arboretum.  As you may know, mules foot ferns have become a major invasive. There are perhaps 1,000 of these in Lyon alone.

Lyon has room for four more people to join their volunteer crew to eradicate the invasive fern. Volunteers will be using saws, picks, and herbicide to take the ferns down, load them in bags and into a vehicle to remove them from Lyon. This is a long term project.

Volunteers should be: hearty and experienced with trail clearing and have a good sense of balance, along with being comfortable with gardening tools and wearing spikes on shoes (due to muddy, slippery and sometimes steep conditions).
