Auckland Tramping Club 2026 New Zealand Safari

The Auckland Tramping Club (ATC), our sister club in New Zealand has once again organized a Safari and is kindly inviting 10 HTMC members to join them. Please read all of the details before signing up.

DATES: Friday 13th March to Friday 27th March 2026 (summer in New Zealand).

COST: Cost of the Safari TBD but expected to be in the vicinity of $500 – $600 NZ. This fee includes transportation and lodging. Everyone will be responsible for their airfare to and from New Zealand, along with all meals and any lodging before or after the trip.

AVAILABILITY: 10 places for HTMC Members and 10 places for ATC to make a manageable group of 20.

ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation varies but is on a shared room basis; from ATC hosts, to ATC’s bush hut, a lodge and motel (for more details read itinerary linked below).

TRANSPORTATION: via “Big Blue” the ATC club truck/bus!

GEAR LIST: A full gear list will be supplied to participants but be warned, you will be hiking in the open most days not in forests so will get full exposure to the sun and wind (HTMC members have been caught out with this on previous Safaris). Both lightweight hiking gear will be needed as well as full storm gear i.e. rain jacket and rain pants. We typically hike in Merino Ts and long sleeved tops (not cotton) and many of us hike in shorts not long pants, but the choice is yours. There is a need to ‘travel light’!

CLICK HERE to sign up for the 2026 Safari (keep in mind that the sign up is NOT first come first serve and will be available through the end of August). The Hike Committee will head up the selection process. Priority will be given to HTMC Members who are active in the club, who have not been before and are team players. That said, anyone who is interested should apply, including those from past trips. Applicants will be notified mid-September if they made the list or have been put on the wait list. If participating, a $200 deposit will be required to secure your spot (refundable until the end of 2025).
