Waimano Tunnels

5 miles / Intermediate / Contour / Pearl City

This figure-8 loop meanders around a lovely valley, following the stream and an abandoned irrigation ditch. We even go underground for a short stretch. Remember to bring a flashlight and a hard head for tunneling.

A $5 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18 or over.

Trail Conditions: Head bumps in tunnels.

Trail Features: Tunnels.

Trail Route: Out and back.

Native Plants: ‘Ohi’a, Koa, Mountain Naupaka, Kopiko. 

Moku & Ahupua’a: ‘Ewa & Waimano.

Hawaiian Name Meaning: Waimano = the many waters.

Historic Information: The Honolulu Plantation Company built the trail in 1912 to help with the construction and maintenance of the ditch and dam in Waimano valley. The CCC later expanded the trail all the way to the Ko’olau summit.
