Waianae Kai

6 miles / Intermediate / Ridge, Valley / Wai'anae

This woodsy loop hike in Wai’anae valley lies below Mt Ka’ala. You’ll climb to a saddle overlooking Makaha Valley, then return via a normally dry stream gully. Watch for key junctions to avoid a longer, steeper hike!  On this hike, there will be someone to watch the cars in the trailhead parking lot.*

A $5 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18 or over.

Elevation Gain: 2,355 feet.

Trail Conditions: ungraded, climbing rocks, narrow, steep trail and hunting area.

Trail Features: cultivated plants  – coffee, allspice, and macadamia.

Trail Route: lollipop loop.

Native Flora & Fauna: ko’oko’olau, maile, ‘a’ali’i.

Moku & Ahupua’a: Wai’anae & Wai’anae.

Hawaiian Name & Meaning: Wai’anae = mullet water.
