Koko Crater

2.8 miles / Intermediate / Ridge / Hawaii Kai
Koko Crater Arch

Start your year off with HTMC camaraderie on a heart-pounding climb with breathtaking views of the south shore.  The historical arch kicking off the hike ushers you up to the top of Koko Crater along the crater rim and descends an old tramway to a beautiful coastal walk.*

A $5 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18 or over.

After the annual New Years day club hike everyone (members and non-members alike) are invited to attend an open house at the HTMC Clubhouse in Waimanalo.

Elevation Gain: 1,356 feet

Trail Conditions: ungraded, climbing rocks, steep incline, steep drop offs, cliffs, narrow sections, crumbly rock, no shade, watch the tide for ocean waves, and slippery rocks and busy road crossing. Not suitable for those with a fear of heights.

Trail Features: natural arch, historic tramway, coastline walk, tide pools, and views from Diamond Head to Holona blow hole, towards the cliffs of Makapu’u.

Hawaiian Myths & Legends: Pele was attacked by Kama-pua’a. Pele’s sister Kapo sent her vagina to lure away the pig man. He followed it to Koko Crater, O’ahu, where it left an imprint, and then flew off to Kalihi.
