Mt. Olympus

5.6 miles / Intermediate / Ridge / St. Louis Hts

This popular trail starts at the Wa‘ahila Ridge State Park and leads to a challenging roller coaster ridge between Manoa and Palolo Valleys to the Ko’olau summit. Enjoy the native plants and spectacular views along the way.*

A $5 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18 or over.

Elevation Gain: 3,092 feet.

Trail Conditions: Slippery, roots, erosion, ropes, cliffs, narrow trail, drop-offs and tricky footing. Little shade.

Trail Features: Impressive Manoa Valley views and summit views of the windward side, edible fruit – strawberry guavas.

Trail Route: out and back.

Native Flora & Fauna: naupaka kuahiwi (mountain naupaka), koa and ‘ohi’a lehua along with native birds – amakihi and apapane.

Moku & Ahupua’a: Kona & Waikiki.

Hawaiian Name & Meaning: Wa’ahila = name of a benficient Manoa rain.

Interesting Note: Story has it that the name of this summit, “Mt. Olympus,” was given by some Punahou students who had climbed the summit and, at the time, were studying greek mythology.
