Maunawili-Waimanalo Dip Loop

4 miles / Novice / Gulch, Foothill / Waimanalo

Dip down from the Maunawili Demo Trail into the lush vegetation of Waimanalo. Follow a pleasant steam and exit via the historic Old Government Road to complete the loop. This hike is for FIT novice hikers who can hike at least four miles on uneven and unimproved terrain with several gradual ups and downs. Hikers should also have the stamina to hike for four hours. The hike is a loop so turning back will not be an option.* 

A $5 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18 or over. 

Elevation Gain: 900 ft.

Trail Conditions: roots, unimproved trail, stream crossings, cat’s-claws (a dangerous thorny weed), slippery and muddy when wet.

Trail Features: old government road, ti leaf forest, and foraging – mountain apples and noni fruit.

Trail Route: loop.

Moku & Ahupua’a: Ko’olaupoko & Waimanalo.

Hawaiian Name & Meaning: Maunawili = twisted mountain. Waimanalo = potable water.
