Maunawili Trail

5 miles / Novice, Intermediate / Contour, Hillside / Maunawili

We take the old Pali Highway and duck under the Pali Highway to get to the Connector Trail that leads to the Maunawili Demonstration Trail. Lunch will be at the grove of Ironwoods. Along the way there will be nice views and interesting landmarks.  Or, for an easier hike, we will go the other direction on the connector trail and end up near the Pali Lookout with its beautiful views.

A $5 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18 or over.

Elevation Gain:

Trail Conditions: Slipper when wet.

Trail Features: Scenic Views, contour trail.

Trail Route: loop trail.

Native Flora & Fauna: Koa, ‘Ohi’a, Uluhe

Moku & Ahupua’a: Ko’olaupoko & Kailua

Hawaiian Name & Meaning: Twisted Mountain

Additional Note: HTMC member Richard H. Davis (of Likeke fame) scouted and marked this route at the base of the Ko’olau cliffs, from the Nu’uanu Pali to Waimanalo. From 1991 to 1993 volunteers, coordinated by the Sierra Club, and helped by the DLNR, cleared and graded most of the route. Shorter sections were completed by scouts, prisoners and marines from Kane’ohe.

HTMC has a no-post social media (including GPS trail apps) hike policy on all trails that are not state trails in order to protect the trails from being “loved to death” and to discourage hikers from going on hikes for which they are not prepared or are beyond their experience level.
