Makapu’u Scramble
Aug 24 Sat 8AM MAKAPU’U SCRAMBLE
(2 Mi/Novice-Intermediate/Hillside/Makapu’u)
A scenic route takes us to the lighthouse viewpoint where we may see a whale or two. For the adventurous, there’s an optional scramble down a fisherman’s trail to the rock shelf and tide pools at the ocean’s edge (use caution in high surf conditions). A $5 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18 or over. Coordinator Laura Owens, laura.owens@htmc1910.org or 388-5373.
08/24/2019 Meeting place direction:
From town, take the freeway to the end and continue on Kalanianaole Hwy past Haunama Bay, and past the Blow Hole and Sandy Beach Park. Pass the traffic light where Kealahou enters the Hwy from Queen’s Gate, and very soon notice a stop sign on a very short road coming up from the beach. Turn right there. Slowly, the pavement ends in about 10 ft. The surface is very rough, but if you drive carefully, you can reach the berm facing Makapu’u Ridge and parkFrom the Waimanalo side, follow Kalanianaole Hwy past Makapu’u and around to the golf course. Where the road leaves the golf course to parallel the beach, you will see the stop sign mentioned above. Make a left turn and park as suggested.
