Pupukea Summit

8.2 miles / Intermediate / Ridge / Pupukea

A long road walk and a short romp gets us deep into the wild and muddy hills of Pupukea and the start of the infamous Ko’olau Summit Trail. The return will follow the same route back, and an additional brief detour to the overlook will be available for hikers as well.

A $5 donation is requested for each non-member, age 18 or over.

Elevation Gain: 2,477

Trail Conditions: 2.5 mile road walk to trail head.

Native Plants: loulu palms, ‘ohi’a lehua, maile, kopiko, hapu’u tree ferns, white naupaka kuahiwi

Moku & Ahupua’a: Ko’olauloa & from Pupukea ahupua’a, crossing Paumalu and Kaunala, to summit between the ahupua’a of Waimea and Malaekahana.

Hawaiian Name Meaning: Literally, white shell.
