Pu’u Heleakala (snare by the sun hill) is the prominent peak between Lualualei and Nanakuli Valleys on Oahu’s west side. The steady climb to the summit is hot and dry, but the breath-taking views at the top are worth the struggle. We start at sea level and gain almost 2000 feet, then descend a saddle and climb again to the top of what looks like a pyramid before having lunch.
