Volunteers Needed for 2025 Kaiwi Explorations
Screenshot The 2025 Annual Ka Iwi Explorations is around the corner on the weekend of November 8-9 2025. We warmly welcome you to support this year’s hikes as a guide, sweep (Saturday) or in our new role as a trail ambassador (Sunday).
As for the 2025 hike program, we’ve decided to try something a little different:
Day 1: Saturday November 8th (*Same guided hike format as previous years)
- Guided hike lead and sweep
- Groups of 15 (at the most)
- Advanced Ridge hike start times: 6am, 7am, 8am
- Moderate Valley hike start times: 6:30am, 7:30am, 8:30am
Day 2: Sunday November 9th (*Self-guided hikes w/ trail ambassadors)
- Self-guided hikes “on-your-own-pace” style with ambassadors stationed at key points along valley and ridge trail.
- Ambassadors will be stationed at key points on trail (e.g., banyan tree, rock cave, and top of ridge, etc.) to ensure hikers remain on path and provide cultural/historical information specific to their designated location.
- Allow up to 20 hikers to start at staggered times at the hour-mark.
- Start times: 6am, 7am, 8am
We are still looking for more volunteers this year and the main expectations are below:
- Attend the orientation hike on the morning of Saturday, October 25th 2025 8:00-11:30am. This applies to both guides/sweepers on Saturday and trail ambassadors on Sunday.
- Either serve as a (a) hike group lead or sweep for one of the guided hike groups on Saturday November 8th; and/or (b) serve as a trail ambassador at a designated location along trail on the morning of Sunday, November 9th.
Key Dates:
- ~9/30/2025: Hiker participant RSVP page and announcement to launch.
- Saturday, 10/25/2025 8:00-11:30am: Hike lead/sweeper orientation hike
- Weekend of 11/8-11/9/2025: Annual Ka Iwi Explorations
To show our appreciation for your participation, we are again offering a small monetary stipend ($100) as a honorarium for your skillset and time.
