HTMC Logo Design Update

Back in the summer of 2024, HTMC Member Pat Rooney kindly agreed to spearhead the search for an updated logo when he accepted the position as Logo Committee Chair. The HTMC Logo Design: Call for Submissions was announced in the fall of 2024 with a November deadline. The announcement was shared on the HTMC website, newsletter and on the Facebook page. Mahalo to all of those who participated by submitting logos!
The design that was selected by the Logo Committee was the brainchild of HTMC Member David Asakura and his high school friend J Menor, who is a textile artist for a well-known local company. David came up with an initial concept utilizing elements from HTMC’s historic logos and then worked with J to help him create the final digital art rendition.
David’s submission included the description below:
- The overall design was inspired by the long history of our prior HTMC logos; round shape, club name around the perimeter, mountain in the center, and reference to the 1910 founding date at the bottom.
- The main central mountain element is Konahuanui (K1 & K2) as viewed from Kailua Bay. I thought a view from the windward side was appropriate since our Waimanalo clubhouse is on that side of the island. Using Konahuanui as the subject felt appropriate since most of our hikes are in the Koolau
range, and it is the highest Koolau peak and iconic in our hiking community. - I thought including the ocean at the bottom was nice since we are an island-based club, unique when compared to clubs in other states.
- The stars at the left and right quadrants of the logo pay homage to the stars in our historic logo.
The Logo Committee was impressed with the design and Pat worked with David and J to make a few minor tweaks to finalize it. To fulfill all of HTMC’s marketing needs multiple versions were created including dark and light, along with 4-color, 3-color and black and white versions (pictured below).
The final logo was accepted by the Board in March 2025 and formally presented to the members at the Annual Meeting in April 2025. Thanks to HTMC board member Ander Thompson, new merchandise featuring the updated HTMC logo will be available to order through the online store shortly – stay tuned!
