Rolling, Cutting & Baking: Holiday Luau Cookie Tradition Continues

- by

The 8th Annual HTMC Holiday Luau is quickly approaching and luau preparation has begun. In late November the dough was prepared and the cookie making crew gathered at the clubhouse to roll, cut and bake over 100 holiday cookies for the luau. As the saying goes, many hands make light work! Mahalo to Sandy June, Wendy, John and Barbara for their help this year.

The luau takes place on the first Saturday in December, so this years luau is on December 7th. HTMC Members and their immediate family may attend the luau, however due to space limitations reservations are required. CLICK HERE for more information and to RSVP.

Sandy June volunteered once again to be in charge of the Holiday Luau Cookie Decorating Contest. She has been collecting cookie decorations and prizes, so come to the luau and bring your creative cookie decorating ideas with you and who knows, you just may win!

If you are interested in making your own holiday cookies, the recipe we have used for the last 8 years is below.

HOLIDAY COOKIE RECIPE

Ingredients

  • 1 batch
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter (at room temp)
  • 1 egg (at room temp)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1tsp Baking powder
  • 3tbs Milk

Directions

In a small bowl mix the flour, baking powder and salt and set aside. Cream the butter and sugar in a mixer until smooth and creamy. Add the vanilla and mix well. Add the egg and mix well. Add the milk and mix well. Add the dry ingredients and mix until just blended, do not over mix. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to 2 days.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Roll out the cookie dough to 1/4 to 1/2 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut into shapes. Place on a tray with parchment paper and place in the freezer for 10 minutes. Remove from freezer and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the bottom of the cookies begin to slightly brown. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack. Decorate with whatever toppings you enjoy! Undecorated cookies can be frozen up to 3 months.

Keep in mind the cooking time will vary depending on  your oven and the thickness of your cookies. This year I reduced the amount of sugar and they still turned out great.
